A great portrait starts with a great photo! Since I work from reference images, the better the photo, the more detail, personality, and expression I can capture in your pet’s portrait. Here are a few tips to help you choose (or take) the perfect Photo:

📸 Clarity counts
High-resolution photos are essential. The clearer the image, the more fine details I can see and include — from the glint in their eyes to the unique texture of their fur.

Natural light is best! Try to photograph your pet near a window or outside on a bright but not-too-sunny day. Avoid harsh shadows or flash, as these can wash out details or distort colours.

Photos taken at your pet’s eye level tend to work best. It gives the portrait a natural, intimate feel and helps me connect with their expression more accurately.

Your new pastel portrait has been created on high-quality Pastelmat by Clairefontaine, a professional surface designed to hold pastel pigments beautifully. Pastels are a delicate medium, which means the artwork’s surface must be treated with care.
Avoid touching or rubbing the surface: even the lightest contact can disturb the fine pastel particles.
Keep it protected: never place other objects, papers, or packaging directly against the artwork.
Framing is the best option: we strongly recommend having your portrait framed behind glass as soon as possible. This ensures the piece is fully protected from dust, smudging, and accidental contact, while allowing you to enjoy it for years to come.
If you choose to order your portrait with a frame, it will arrive ready to hang and properly sealed for protection. If you prefer to frame it yourself, please keep it safely flat in its packaging until you take it to a professional framer.
